Pi Noir Camera V2

Pi NoIR Camera Module V2 (8 MP Infrared)

Raspberry Pi Foundation now launches another top-quality, high-resolution night vision camera. The Original Pi NoIR Camera Module now carries advanced features with the upgraded 8 Megapixel infrared Pi NoIR Camera v2. Thanks to the Sony IMX219 (8 MP) the quality is far better than OmniVision 5647 (5MP) found in the original camera module.

Pi NoIR doesn’t feature infrared filter which leads to the facts that the pictures aren’t going to be top-notch quality during the daylight but the good thing is that you’ll be able to see around through the dark, thanks to an impressive infrared feature.

Plant Monitoring

The blue gel surrounding the Pi NoIR v2 Camera helps monitoring the plant health. Historically, plant lovers use Pi NoIR to inspect the bug activity around the plants.

Pi NoIR Infrared Camera V2 is compatible with Raspberry Pi 1, Pi 2 and Pi 3. The camera is also accessible through:

  • MMAL
  • V4L
  • PiCamera Python

The upper side of the module contains a small socket which helps attaching the Pi NoIR v2 with the help of SCi interface. This SCi interface is custom designed for the new model. The 25x23x29 (mm) board is compact and just 3-grams of weight suggests that it is quite light. The smaller size and lesser weight makes it a good option for smartphone.
